My Passion

Communication is an essential skill that you must develop to function successfully in both the physical and digital worlds.
In these sessions you will develop a perspective and articulate your ideas in meaningful ways using digital media.
This project hinges on your passion and motivation; you are tasked with telling personal stories in digital form.

Activity 1

Discuss what they are passionate or motivated about.

I am passionate about books. I love being able to leave my world behind and enter someone else's. A book is a place that you can go and it will sometimes make you laugh or even make you cry. A book takes you to places you might never go but it tells you all about them describing everything in great depth. A book holds characters you might relate to or might want to know. For the short time you are reading you do get to know them and you want them to be real. A book is something you can use as an excuse for a nice warm hot chocolate with marshmallows and a comfy chair to sit in while you lose yourself in the book. A library contains thousands of books, I love going to the library it is quiet and a place know one can disturb you. I also like that if a book is being turned into a film the book gives you lots of detail which helps you understand the film better. Finally when you enter a book shop you can see all the fresh new books and you can smell that fresh paper smell and you can browse for hours finding the perfect book for you.

Have students write about their topics and what they want viewers to take away from their work.

From my film I would like more people to read books and make time for reading. I would also like for people to actually visit book shops and library's so they can look at the books and talk to like minded people and share books. Finally I would like library's to stop closing down because of electronic books/tablets and also stop turning into big computer suites.

Activity 2
Instruct students to detail the story, audience, and message of the video they're producing and why it's meaningful to them.

1.
Story
Online books are taken over library's, becoming computer suites.
Audience
Local councils, community groups.
Message
We can have both, A library is a delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life.

2.
Story
More people should make time for reading, visit bookshops and be able to access books.
Audience
General.
Message
“There is nothing like the smell of a bookstore. If you ask me, it's actually a combination of smells: part library, part new book, and part expectation for what you might find.”
Kathryn Fitzmaurice, Destiny, Rewritten

If you don't have time for reading, make time.

3.
Story
Books can build friendships
Audience
General
Message
Books are things we are supposed to share, they are supposed to be discussed and passed on to other readers. Books build a conversation, books inspire people and are the story behind some films. Books bring people closer together because we can all relate to them.

“...Something we once loved, and love now, in the shape of a book. Maybe eBooks are going to take over, one day, but not until those whizzkids in Silicon Valley invent a way to bend the corners, fold the spine, yellow the pages, add a coffee ring or two and allow the plastic tablet to fall open at a favorite page.”
Russell T. Davies, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
